The
Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR E-13B) font was developed by American Bankers Association.
Character shapes and dimensions are specified in
ANSI 9.27 standard, which has been approved as the American National Standard for Financial Services.
The character set includes 10 numeric character and 4 special symbols as shown below.
Each character has a unique waveform when print by
MICR toner and read magnetically. Therefore,
MICR font allows high-speed automated processing of bank checks.
MICR font can be used in a wide range of applications: bank check printing, sales promotion coupon, billing, receipt printing, etc.
